And then I did something drastic.
I got out my metaphorical pruning shears and just butchered the thing- in a good way! There actually is one thing that Soopum said that I agree with, and that's that most movies are longer than they need to be. NOW, I do believe some student films should be on the longer side- 40 mins, etc., because they're trying to do something specific in that time. So that's what I did. It's at 50 pages now. I don't think I can cut it down anymore without another pair of eyes, like my advisor Lisa's, or something. Right now I think it works, and I made it work without those padding scenes. And I did things creatively that I don't usually do, like cut into scenes, and overlay dialogue on montage. And I like it, I like the challenge a lot.
But that's not even the beginning, challenge-wise. Because if I chop this down a little more, well, I may plan on filming it. And if I film it, that's going to be a whole 'nother bundle of stress. I'd need to find a classroom/hallway that could pass for high school, get permission to film in a hospital, cast a bunch of people...oy vey.
Do I dare? Do I dare when pretty much only my friends will understand and accept what I'm going for here?
Maybe. Maybe, I do.
Problem is....what the hell am I gonna do with my thesis?
